The Kenneth Road bakery.
A small French bakery on West Kenneth Road in Glendale. Hand-shaped baguettes, butter croissants, brioche, and the kind of pâtisserie that fills the case for ten minutes after opening and disappears.
Flour. Butter. Time.
Village French Bakery has been on West Kenneth Road for years. A small storefront, a small oven, and a small case that fills every morning at five with the day's baking — and empties by lunch.
We make baguettes, country loaves, pain au levain, croissants (plain, almond, chocolate, ham-and-cheese), brioche, tarts, éclairs, macarons, and a short rotating list of viennoiserie that changes with the season.
Open six days. Walk-in or call ahead for whole cakes, tart orders, or larger boxes. The 234 reviews come from regulars who've made us their Saturday-morning stop.
From the regulars.
Village French Bakery is the only real boulangerie in north Glendale. The baguette is what a baguette should taste like — crackly outside, open crumb inside, slightly sour. I haven't bought a baguette anywhere else in three years.
Ordered the Paris-Brest for my wife's birthday — eight inches, two days' notice, picked it up at noon. It was the best Paris-Brest I've had in LA, and I grew up in Lyon. The praline crémeux was perfect.
Walk in every Friday at seven with my coffee and buy two pain au chocolats and a baguette. Same routine for three years. The croissant is still as good as the first time I tried it.
